Our story
Designpunt is the support center for design culture in Flanders.
Our mission is to stimulate the sector by developing knowledge, fostering reflection, and emphasizing design as an artistic discipline. Through a program, we showcase and debate the artistic and cultural value of contemporary design, while as a knowledge center we actively build and share expertise about the field.
We are a hub: a place where connections are made, current issues are explored, and space is created for new voices. As a landscape-strengthening player, our aim is to connect designers, researchers, organizations, curators, policymakers, educators, critics and journalists across the sector.
In doing so, Designpunt contributes to a thriving, critical and forward-looking design landscape.
Designpunt is currently embedded within Design Museum Ghent and is fully funded by the Flemish Government.
Projects
Our projects aim to strengthen and share design culture in Flanders. We work along three lines: practical support and field analysis, promotion and presentation, and reflection and discourse.
We develop publications, organize lectures and debates, stage small-scale exhibitions, and initiate awards or work trips. We are also continuily developing this online platform where articles, interviews and dossiers come together.
Across all our projects we seek a balance between established names and emerging voices. We give young designers, critics and curators opportunities to showcase their work, while at the same time encouraging dialogue. In this way, our projects help shape a design sector that is stronger, more connected and more diverse in its perspectives.
